THE pound is trading at a rate of $1.293 against the dollar this morning – down about 0.4 per cent on its opening levels. Sterling rallied against most currencies yesterday, but was left out in the cold against the dollar which benefitted from its safe haven status as global stock markets panicked and Italy’s budget scandal threatened to get out of control.
