One of the world’s biggest technology shows opened its doors last week with CES in Las Vegas giving a glimpse of what’s to come in 2019.

Express.co.uk packed our bags and headed stateside to check out everything that’s new and bring you all the gossip from this gadget extravaganza.

Along with plenty of weird and wonderful technology on show, one of the biggest updates came from the world of televisions with all of the biggest names including Samsung, Sony and LG launching new models.

So, if you’re looking to upgrade your ageing telly, here’s our pick of the best TVs that will be arriving this year.

SAMSUNG

Samsung is going supersized in 2019.

is the firm’s biggest and most powerful TV to date.

It also offers full 8K resolution which will make your current 4K TV look like something from the 80s.

Samsung says that it has produced this much larger TV to meet consumer demand with sales of screens over 75-inches having more than doubled in the US alone.

Along with 8K, Samsung has also revealed its new Micro LED technology which offers improved image quality and the ability to push the screen to the very edges meaning no more chunky bezels.

“For decades, Samsung has lead the way in next-generation display innovation,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.

“Our Micro LED technology is at the forefront of the next screen revolution with intelligent, customizable displays that excel in every performance category. Samsung Micro LED has no boundaries, only endless possibilities.”

Samsung Frame TV

One final announcement is that Samsung is now bringing the iTunes Store to its TVs which will allow Apple fans to tune into their favourite content without needing a separate streaming device.

Along with these new unveilings, Samsung also gave the first glimpse of its refreshed lifestyle TVs.

These clever televisions, which look like pictures hanging on your wall, are nothing new with the firm unveiling its first selection of ‘Frame’ televisions last year.

But the Korean firm says its latest and minimalist models will feature an Art Mode which displays digital pieces of artwork, including paintings and pictures.

This year’s ‘Frame’ also features the pristine picture quality of QLED, which offers deeper contrasts, deeper and darker blacks and 100% colour volume.

SONY

It’s not just Samsung making giant tellies as Sony has also announced its own 98-inch movie-watching monster.

The new ZG9 will offer 8K HDR resolution which provides four times the pixels of current 4K.

There’s also some clever audio technology tucked inside which allows viewers to magically hear the sound coming from the inside screen, and not where the speaker is located.

Sony’s latest models utilise four front-facing speakers; two on the bottom and two on the top – to deliver a faithful sound position.

This means viewers will hear the sound coming right from the screen, which should make content feel far more immersive.

Along with this giant TV being revealed, Sony also refreshed its lineup of Premium OLED TVs.

The AG9 is Sony’s new flagship 4K HDR OLED TV and will be available in 77”, 65”, and 55” screen sizes.

Sony says images come to life with the super-wide viewing angle, precise contrast and absolute blacks of OLED technology.

Acoustic Surface Audio+ provides a totally immersive sound experience with the sound coming from the entire screen, enveloping viewers in exciting new entertainment experiences.

The AG9 is also incredibly slim in depth and, when wall-mounted, it will fit close to the wall at around half the distance of Sony’s previous model

One final piece of news is that Sony’s new TVs are now fully compatible with Apple Airplay 2 and HomeKit which should make accessing content from your iPhone, iPad and Mac a lot easier.

PANASONIC

Although Sony and Samsung had some impressive TVs on show one that made the biggest impact on us came from Panasonic.

The Japanese company launched its new GZ2000 model at CES and it arrives packing a very clever trick up its sleeve which could prove hugely popular.

Instead of going bigger and thinner, is all about the audio it can produce.

This 4K TV is the world’s first with built-in upward-firing speakers capable of delivering Dolby Atmos.

This technology means sound appears to move around the room in a three-dimensional space, so you are made to feel like you are fully immersed inside the action.

“Together, Dolby and Panasonic are bringing best in class audio and imaging technology to Panasonic’s TVs,” said John Couling, Senior Vice President, Commercial Partnerships.

“Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos perfectly complement the GZ2000’s advanced display, transforming it into an entertainment powerhouse.”

As well as better audio, Panasonic says they have also worked hard to improve the visuals on the new TV.

With a faster and more powerful HCX PRO Intelligent processor the GZ2000 can produce improved detail and accuracy with less motion blur visible on the screen.

LG ROLLABLE TV

A little bit of TV magic came from LG at CES.

The Korean firm revealed its next-generation OLED television which can be rolled up at the press of a button.

When unrolled users will be treated to a 65-inch screen which LG is boasting will offer incredible contrast and picture quality.

Then, when you have finished your evening’s viewing, the screen simply tucks neatly into its base which also acts as a giant speaker.

There’s no official launch date or price but LG has promised it will go on sale later this year with some rumours speculating it will cost over £25,000.

Speaking about the new TV launches at CES and what it means for consumers, Jon Wiltshire, Tech & Electricals Trading Director at Argos, said: “It’s an exciting time for tech fans with some big launches at CES this year.

“Super-sized TVs were a key theme, with exciting products unveiled by LG, Samsung and Sony. “With screens reaching 98”, getting a true cinematic experience will be a reality for customers in the future.

“LG’s first rollable TV, the Signature R OLED, also shows the exciting possibilities for optimising space as screens get increasingly bigger.”
